Here are a few theatrical ways you can spend October 31st!
1. SALEM: A New Musical Comedy @ The Green Room 42

In the mood to explore some brand new musical theatre? Attend the first public NYC concert performance of SALEM: A New Musical Comedy at The Green Room 42 on October 31st! The show describes itself as a “dark musical comedy,” with “pamphleteers presented as 1690’s cable news anchors, an apparition of the Devil forged from the imagination of a teenaged girl, and deliciously danceable pop musical numbers.”
Seems like the perfect way to begin your Halloween night, especially since the performance starts early at 6:30PM. Grab tickets here!

2. Little Shop of Horrors @ The Westside Theatre

A plant that feeds on flesh and blood, a maniac dentist obsessed with human suffering, and unabashedly campy practical effects?? Sounds just like a haunted house to me! I saw the current leads (Sherie Rene Scott and Nicholas Christopher) on their opening night and they absolutely nailed it, definitely worth seeing them at Mushnik’s while you can.
Get tickets here or enter the lottery here, and try to remember… DON’T FEED THE PLANTS!

3. Saw the Musical: The Unauthorized Parody @ New Box Theater

Alright I have to admit even I haven’t seen this one yet, but something tells me you don’t go to this show based on a personal recommendation. You go because you crave adventure, because you’re free and reckless, because you’re someone who wakes up and says “You know what, yeah. Yeah I am going to spend my night at a SAW parody musical.” And I applaud you, I might even see you there.
There are two showings on October 31st – 7:30PM and 10:30PM. Get your tickets here, and I’ve heard it’s best enjoyed if you prepare appropriately, there are several cute places to grab a cocktail in the area…

4. Sunset Blvd. @ The St. James Theatre

Ok it’s no secret I am obsessed with this show (see my review here), but I genuinely think this is a great way to get into the spooky spirit. The show is so innovative, so thrilling, so bloody, it’s almost like you’re watching the premiere of a film noir horror movie!
Grab your ticket here, and don’t be shocked if you see some people dressed up as Norma Desmond herself in the audience.

5. Teeth the Musical @ New World Stages

Is there anything scarier than being a teen girl facing the shame of evangelical purity culture? This new musical (based on the 2007 movie) explores the life of a girl navigating the already confusing world of adolescence when she discovers she has teeth in her vagina. This show comes with a “splash zone” (aren’t you dying to have a Teeth-themed poncho??) and has it’s opening night on October 31st!
It’s sure to be a bloody good time. Snag a ticket here!

6. Cabaret @ The Kit Kat Club (August Wilson Theatre)

To me, this production perfectly curates the proper vibe for an eerie night out (and that’s not just because I went as a Kit Kat dancer for Halloween this year…) On October 31st they’re having a special collaboration with the club House of Yes, with a cocktail menu by celebrity mixologist Shoko Tomita!
