Meet Soph

Hi! I hope we’re seat neighbors at a show someday, but until I can introduce myself in person, here’s a little about me!

I’m a software engineer, writer, and (the obvious) I love theatre. Like, I used to make cupcakes to celebrate the Tony Awards every year. Like, a highlight of my trip to South Korea was seeing an original Korean musical (do I speak Korean? No. Could I tell you in confidence what the plot was? No. Did I sob? Absolutely). Like, I once took a day off work to be an extra Newsie in this Broadway Votes video. Like, part of the reason why I moved from Madison, WI to NYC was to be at a global center of endless theatre, music, dance, and art!

By day I work at Google, but when I don’t have my head in The Cloud a lot of my free time is spent either in an audience of some sort or nurturing my other theatrical passions.

I’m still connected to my Wisconsin theatre community, where I judge for the Jerry Awards (which feeds into the Jimmy Awards) to encourage excellence in high school musical theatre. I love returning to my home state to review shows, and I’m especially passionate about recognizing achievements and creativity in technical theatre (I ❤ Stage Crew!). I’m also a budding playwright (so far I’ve had two pieces staged) and I’ve dabbled in lighting, directing, and interactive set design. Otherwise, I attend a lot of talkbacks on theatre technology and hope to one day work in this industry!

So all that to say, I’m truly my happiest when I get to witness a passionate, unexpected, or awe-inspiring show, no matter the scale. I think there’s nothing like the intimate and fleeting experience of live performance, and I started this blog to share this feeling with anyone who stops by. I am never paid or compensated for my posts, and all thoughts/opinions/hopes/dreams are my own. If you want to drop me a note, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

See you at a show!
